Strake Jesuit Quiz Bowl Secures Third at Brown, Defeats MIT and Top Rivals
By Matt Kubus
During spring break, the Strake Jesuit Quiz Bowl team accepted an invitation to compete in a tournament hosted at Brown University in Providence, RI. The team of Max Chen ’25, Mikey Rodriguez ’25, Justin Wang ’25, and Khang Le ’26 performed exceptionally well, placing third in a 14-team field. In the round robin, Jesuit defeated not only one of the top-performing high school teams in the nation, Lexington High School, but also several universities across New England, including Brandeis, Amherst, Boston University, Tufts, and most notably, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), one of the best collegiate teams.
In the semifinals of the playoff round, after taking a 25-point lead into the final two questions, Jesuit fell to Harvard, the eventual champions, by a razor-thin margin, a heartbreaking defeat.
Congratulations to these four young men for demonstrating not only astonishing knowledge but also the highest character in victory and resilience in defeat!
