On Friday night the Strake Jesuit hockey team claimed a 6-3 victory against Ridge Point in a fast-paced, hard-fought contest. Jonathan Mathews '26 led the charge for Strake Jesuit with a standout performance, scoring a hat trick and contributing multiple assists for 5 points.
Ridge Point jumped out to an early lead in the first period, but Mathews responded quickly, opening the scoring for Strake Jesuit with an unassisted goal, showcasing his individual skill. He continued to dominate, assisting on freshman Nick Yu’s goal in the second period, and netting two more goals himself — one in the second and one in the third — including the eventual game-winner, with assists from teammates Thomas Jackson '27 and Luke Depue '27.
Nick Yu added another goal late in the third, with Mathews picking up yet another assist, while Tommy Padilla '28 also found the back of the net with an unassisted goal to widen the lead.
Ridge Point put up a fight with three goals, but Strake Jesuit's defense, anchored by goaltender Nikolai Saratovtsev, held strong, limiting their offensive opportunities. The Crusaders maintained control throughout the game and shut Ridge Point out in the third period to secure the win.
With this solid team performance, Strake Jesuit continues to build on their momentum, improving their season record to 3-0.
