Each fall, the College Board's AP Program honors high school students with exceptional college-level achievement by performing on various Advanced Placement Exams. Strake Jesuit College Preparatory proudly announces that 388 students have received this recognition.

The AP Scholar Award recognizes students who have achieved high marks in their AP courses and have scored three or higher on three or more of their AP exams. Completing an AP course and exam signifies that students have undertaken college-level coursework, helping to ease their transition from high school to college courses and earn college credit.

Alumnus John Taffet ‘22 recently reflected on his AP courses at Strake Jesuit. “The Advanced Placement courses at Strake Jesuit acted as a great bridge from high school academics to college academics by bringing university-level material into the personalized, intimate education that Jesuit offers. By committing to the extra rigor classes in high school, I could bypass the notorious, massive, “weed-out” introductory courses. Additionally, the credit I earned from AP exams has afforded me a ton of freedom in creating my class schedule in college.“

In 2024, Strake Jesuit’s AP program saw impressive results. The total number of AP students reached 1,015, taking a combined 2,432 exams. Of these students, 85.52% achieved scores of 3 or higher of students enrolled in AP courses. This marks a significant improvement from 2023, when the total number of AP students was 952, with 2,110 exams taken and 687 students scoring three or higher, accounting for 72.16% of the AP students.

The number of AP Scholars at Strake Jesuit has grown significantly over the years, from 264 in 2020 to 388 in 2024 - an increase of over 46%. This growth reflects not only the dedication of our students but also our faculty and staff, who prepare them for the demanding college-level coursework.

“I am very proud of the work our faculty and staff have done to provide access while ensuring excellence in our AP program,” said Trip Norkus ‘95, Assistant Principal for Academics. “More and more of our students are walking onto college campuses with hours of college credit, enabling them to dive deeper into their chosen fields of study. The Ignatian spirit of Magis is definitely evident in our faculty’s work and students’ commitment to their AP studies.”

At Strake Jesuit, we believe in fostering an environment where every student can flourish. Our efforts to enhance access to AP courses- including our 27-course offerings and eliminating additional fees in the 2021-2022 school year- reflect our mission to assist young men in their formation as servant leaders and Men for Others. By ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder our students’ growth, we remain committed to providing a comprehensive program of intellectual and spiritual development for the greater glory of God.
